Server & Storage Expansion
Project Overview:
The Client requested the help of EGI to expand computing capacity in several of their remote Data Centers. As a Sun shop they needed approximately 40 Sun servers and 20 Terabytes of storage immediately to accommodate growth. The Ergonomic Group assisted in the design & architecture of a solution that would exceed their expected requirements while remaining within the customer’s fiscal constraints.
Problem:
The Client was experiencing rapid growth due to mergers and acquisitions. At the same time they were challenged with customer growth & application dependencies. Server and Storage expansion along with redesign was the only solution that could be deployed to meet the business requirements.
Challenge:
New computing demands on customer facing core applications such as Central Applications required immediate attention. Due to major growth, the Client was forced to open an additional Data Center at a co-location in Ashburn, Virginia. This was in addition to the four Data Centers they currently operate.
Solution
By utilizing sales and engineering resources, EGI’s team was able to design, architect and deploy Sun’s new X series quad core servers and 2500 series scalable storage very quickly.
Services & Support:
EGI provided the client with many hours of technical design, the necessary loaner equipment and advised on different levels of support in order for the Client to meet their SLA’s.
Result:
The Client’s production environment is currently able to handle the current workload as well as any projected growth for the near future. EGI was also able to provide evidence that Sun servers and storage are the best approach for their growing environment moving forward.
Follow Up:
EGI followed up with an onsite meeting at the Client’s site to debrief and make sure all of the aspects of this upgrade went according to plan. Currently, we are working on the next significant application upgrade of an N5. We are also working on architecting a company wide back up solution.
