EGI Solutions: Capacity Planning
Project Overview:
The customer was faced with an unanticipated growth via acquisitions and an increase in market share. Their production environment began to spike as a result of a significant increase in the amount of loan applications that were being processed.
Challenge:
The challenges the customer’s IT Department faced were making sure that the production environment was stabilized, and continued to uphold that a 99.9% posted Service Level Agreement (SLA) was maintained & continued to grow the business.
Solution
EGI proposed a phased building block approach which consisted of hardware replacement & software upgrades. EGI replaced the existing Sun Sparc III 6800 servers with Sun Ultra Sparc IV+ TECHNOLOGY. This tripled the scalability and performance of the existing platform. In conjunction with this, the customer upgraded their Solaris OS & Oracle databases to the most current releases.
Services & Support:
EGI provided the client with many hours of architectural design, the necessary loaner equipment to perform a Proof of Concept, as well as advised on the different levels of Sun maintenance that the customer would need to meet their SLA’s.
Result:
The customer’s production environment is now able to handle the current workload and projected growth for the future.
Follow Up: EGI will be concluding the migration in about one month. EGI has been asked to participate in the next project, which is an Oracle RAC/Sun platform for newly acquired businesses.
Customer Feedback: The customer is very happy with the platform, the price and the performance of the new production environment. The execution of this project has enabled the Ergonomic Group to uncover new opportunities with this customer.
